Ambakke Dewalaya 🪵🛕

Wood Carvings of the Ambakka Devalaya About half a mile from the village of Daulagala, about 8 miles from Peradeniya in Kandy, you will come across this temple☸️ dedicated to the god Kataragama called Ambakka🔱.There is a new meaningful architectural tradition here. The medium is wood🪵.This architecture belongs to the Gampola period. All the architecture here is made of wood. The elongated platform has 32 wooden pillars. The panels of these pillars are engraved with 128 carvings on each of the four sides. There are a large number of other beautiful wood carvings such as the soldier carving, the tambourine weaver, the mother feeding the baby, the beetle bird, the kidura and the nalagana🎭.The roof design of the Ambakka Devalaya is also special due to the curvature used to connect the 26 rafters together. The great artist Dilmada Mulachari is credited by the nation for creating this wonderful creation. The people of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 are also proud to have such a heritage of beautiful modern architecture with such beautiful wood carvings.
